I'm a Journalism student at Ryerson University in Toronto, ON. I'm also the Creative Director of Rye's Student Hip-Hop Organization chapter. Following a 10-day suspension from Chicago’s Jones College Prep High School in the spring of 2011, where his teachers ridiculed his aspirations to be a musician, he released his first mixtape 10 Day, which has been downloaded over 20,000 times from the mixtape sharing site, Datpiff. 10 Day was also featured in Forbes’ ‘Cheap Tunes’, where Chance was described as ‘an artist who draws upon a pool of these musical elements and pieces them together into an accessible, fluid amalgamation.’

There are instances when the strength of a whole crew is fully displayed on one track, a perfect combination of fierce production and killer verses from each member. “BetAMill” is exactly one of these particular cuts. Production is handled by Soulection affiliate Bosstone, who provides a slapper that is sure to push people’s audio systems to their limit; taken full advantage of by the UTB Life$tyle crew, particularly Pheo., Cashius Green and Dre Biggity, each contributing a verse hard enough to match the intensity of the production, forcing you to acknowledge their arrival on the music scene. “BetAMill” was a saying first uttered by Pheo. on his track “Angelina’s Beamer”, meant to be interpreted as an exhibition of confidence, which guarantees the success of his UTB Life$tyle crew, success so certain, you could bet a cool mill on it. - J Go

Los Angeles artist Ill Chill reached out to me on email, and I’m real glad he did. Track features Anthony Ellect, and is a good song that walks the line between seducing girls you like with cornball text message lovenotes and encouraging a “DO WORK” ‘tude, but it works.

I always dig drone-y synths like this, and I’d like to see more of an exploration of these concepts in the lyrics. Pretend bragging and impossibly high claims of luxury gets a bit tired, especially when it comes from artists you just know work day jobs when they’re not being internet important, so this is one’s a breath of fresh air.
