I'm a Journalism student at Ryerson University in Toronto, ON. I'm also the Creative Director of Rye's Student Hip-Hop Organization chapter. I do photography, web stuff, writing, and even make a decent coffee. I blanket myself in curiosity and music, and I'm always looking to connect with others who want to build something positive.

So a friend of mine asked me to DJ his private function for last night, making it my first ever DJ gig. I was very nervous initially, as the setup was for me to be in a booth overlooking the space, all ominous and looming, Tiesto style. Thankfully, I ended up doing my thing in a sound booth off the bar area. Tried to keep it very hangout-y and let the music be the background to what was a very celebratory dinner for everyone. I routed my Maschine through Traktor (yes, you can do that, and yes, it works quite well) and spent all last week getting transitions down, but it’s a whole different ballgame when playing through a PA system for a bunch of people who don’t even like 2 Chainz are looking to dance, especially after dinner. A few people were impressed with my song selections, and I only had to play just one dubstep song (pats self on back). One person even repped me for starting the dance floor off with A$AP. I hiccuped quite a lot on some songs, but got people dancing, and felt I did an okay job. Really though, it was a great feeling playing a few tracks I made during dinnertime without anyone saying “yuck, what is that?” I’m going to keep going with Traktor, and will hopefully get a chance to do this again soon. Thanks for the gig, Sammy!

In an effort to better organize my shit, I’ve stepped up my portfolio game considerably. This gives me an opportunity to be more colourful with what I can post on here, too, which I’m pretty happy for. I’ve had this URL for like four years, but still have no real idea what it all means, Basil. Now I won’t get weird up-and-downs when I tell people about my “website.” I hate discussing my quest to get fake important IRL, anyways. And now with my portfolio page, I’ll be able to hide my appreciation for ignorant rap music from employers better demonstrate my work to employers! Yeah.

Put a little playlist of some songs together. It goes different places but weirdly I think it works. You be the judge.

Lot of great artists I’ve found from Soundcloud compliment choice hip-hop tracks from the past few years, including a few old favourites. Oh, Let’s not forget the occasional dream-pop heavenly female vocalists that pop up here and there, too! For all you ladies out there listening in radio land. It’s end of the summer music, for your enjoyment. And if you didn’t notice, summer’s over. Sorry.
